What you need:
COLORSHOT Premium Spray Paints (This project uses Orange Slice, Summer Pedicure, Farmer’s Daughter, and Island Girl)
Gold gilding wax
Disposable gloves
Painter’s tape
Drop cloth or protective surface cover
Step 1 - Prepare the luggage
Choose which colors you’d like to use for this personalized luggage project and make sure your suitcase is clean, dry, and free of dust or debris. Work in a well-ventilated area and place the luggage on a drop cloth or other protective surface cover to protect from overspray.
Step 2 - Cover wheels, handle, and locks with painter’s tape
Use painter’s tape to cover areas of the luggage you don’t want painted, such as the wheels, handle, and locks.
Step 3 - Apply spray paint to the suitcase
For this personalized luggage project, we’re creating an ombré design with a bright palette that reminds us of a tropical vacation. We’re starting with Orange Slice, a sweet orange shade. Shake the can for at least one minute before applying. Hold the can 6"-10" from the surface and spray paint your suitcase in smooth, even strokes.
Step 4 - Apply the next color of spray paint
Apply the next color of spray paint to your personalized luggage, slightly overlapping the first to create a subtle gradient. We’re using Summer Pedicure, a coral color that complements the orange very nicely! Don’t worry if the paint gets on the bottom section the suitcase— you’ll cover any overspray with the next colors.
Step 5 - Add metallic accents with gold gilding
Continue to apply spray paint to your personalized luggage, slightly overlapping each color.
We finished our tropical ombré design with Farmer’s Daughter and Island Girl! Allow the paint to dry to the touch before proceeding.
Step 6 - Apply gilding wax
Add metallic accents to your personalized luggage with gold gilding wax! Be sure to wear gloves during application to avoid staining your hands. Remove the painter’s tape and allow your custom painted luggage to dry completely.
Step 7 Reveal!
Once the paint has dried completely, your personalized luggage is ready to use. Create a matching set by repeating this process and get ready for your next adventure!
